Purpose-driven communications consultancy Second Mountain Comms has been named a finalist in the 'New Business' category at the 2021 Bath Life Awards.
The prestigious awards celebrate the best of Bath, and this year's event is due to take place at The Assembly Rooms on Thursday 9th September.
The 'New Business' category, sponsored by Novia, was open to any business that started in the city since July 2019. The Bath Life Awards judged nominations based on evidence of excellence and response to the pandemic, alongside the distinctiveness of offering, the business' civic, charity and ecological support, and client testimonials.
Second Mountain Comms is in great company in its category alongside fellow start-ups Backpack, Cassia, The Exotic Fruit Company, Field Doctor, Flow Bar Frome, The Happy Donut Bakery, Hotel Indigo Bath, Ping At Home and Wild Pig.
Ben Veal, founder and director of Second Mountain Comms, says:
Truly over the moon that @2ndMountainUK is a 'New Business' finalist in the 2021 Bath Life Awards. Establishing a new company and building a brand and client base during lockdown certainly wasn't easy - but it's been an exciting journey so far. The last 12 months have proved that firm, positive foundations for the future can be laid during the most testing of times - and the quality of companies within the 'New Business' category this year is a testament to the resilience, creativity and resolve of the Bath business community. Roll on September 9th for awards night!
Founded in the summer of 2020 in the wake of the UK's first national lockdown, Second Mountain Comms has been established to help good people do good and seeks to contribute towards a better society post-Covid, taking forward the learnings from this very difficult time. The consultancy's founder, experienced comms professional Ben Veal MCIPR, began the year working in a senior role for a local PR agency before being made redundant shortly after the COVID-19 crisis reached the UK. The unexpected situation provided Ben with an opportunity for pause and reflection - to stop and consider what truly matters in life.
Less than one year on, the business has built up a focused portfolio of ten clients and donates 20% of its time, pro-bono, to two local faith-based charities. Second Mountain was the first Bath-based company to join the Children's Hospice South West Business Club, is a member of the Business Against Poverty ethical community, and is part of the Better Business Act coalition, pledging our support for companies to work in a way that benefits wider society. Launched during the toughest of years, Second Mountain Comms is a business with purpose at its heart - and is working towards a brighter future.
